Moon Void of Course - Simple tip for getting things done.

Moon void of course is coming into more mainstream astrological awareness and it is helpful when plotting plans to start a new project. It is a period of time when the moon does not make any major aspects (conjunction, trine, square, sextile & opposition) to any planets including the Sun. This is the general definition. There are several perspectives on what exactly constitutes void of course (VOC). I am only going to write about 2 of them here.

The aspects the moon makes to the other planets throughout each day is important as it represents the connection of the Earth to the other planets orbiting around the Sun. The moon is our close personal ally as it orbits around us. Earth’s atmosphere is deeply influenced by the moon’s magnetic pull. The Moon’s orbit pulls on our atmosphere as it moves closer and further, back and forth, to the Earth. Everytime the Moon makes an aspect to a planet it “transfers” its energy to the Earth. The type of energy is described by the type of aspect, sometimes fluidly, sometimes in a jolting manner.

As the moon changes signs it forms geometric relationships (aspects) to the planets. Since all of the planets are moving all the time there are some periods of time when the moon does not form any of these aspects. This is  the first perspective I’ll describe - when the moon is at the end of 30 degrees of a sign and has finished its last aspect, but does not form a new aspect to another planet until it enters the next sign. When this occurs the moon is said to be VOC. Once it enters the new sign, assuming there’s another planet in aspect to that sign, the moon is considered no longer in VOC. The VOC period of time can be less than an hour or several hours long.

The second perspective is when the moon makes no major aspects to any visible planets. I italicized the word visible to highlight the main difference. The first perspective includes aspects to all planets, the second refers to only the visible planets of Mercury to Saturn. Uranus, Neptune, & Pluto are not visible to the naked eye. This is the perspective I use and I also look at the period of time of the VOC. If the time period last 12 hours or more then I consider the moon VOC.

Now consider this intellectually. The Moon sometimes does not make any connections to the other planets for a full 12 to 24 hours. It is like we are “cut off” from these energies, there is no transferring of energy during that time period. In other words, there is no “partnership or alliance” with the other planets. To me a “jolting” energy would be better than no energy from the other planets.

If you want no results from an action, then the above situation is ideal. If you want something to Not move forward then use the VOC. There are a few situations that serve as examples. Jury duty is one, if you can’t afford to take time off from work and your employer does not pay for this civil service, then after you receive your jury summons register for it while the Moon is VOC. I can’t 100% guarantee this, but the risk is much less when using the VOC. It has worked for me so far. Another example of using the Moon VOC is if you are concerned about a serious confrontation. If you are concerned about another person’s reaction to one of your major decisions, then notifying them of the decision during moon VOC is appropriate. Don’t make the major decision during moon VOC, but telling someone of your decision when the Moon is VOC is safer for you.

Does the above description sound like a good time to start a new project? The short answer is no. If you know what Electional astrology (picking an optimum time to start something) is, then you will know that one of the key factors is what aspect(s) the Moon is making in the electional chart. Getting success out of a new project requires some kind of connection of the planets “out there” to us here on Earth like having the Moon in aspect to Jupiter (the lucky planet) in an electional chart. You can use this transfer of energy to start, build and push forward any project. In simple terms: don’t start any project while the moon is VOC.

Here are some future dates of moon VOC in 2024. These are for PDT (pacific daylight time).

April 3, 9, 13, 16 - all day

(No planetary aspects at all on April 16)

April 18 most of the day

May 6, 16, 18, 20, 25 - all day

(No planetary aspects at all on May 16)

May 8 - most of the day

Feel free to try out these two different approaches to moon VOC. Either way, moon VOC equals no energetic connection between Earth and the other planets. No matter which perspective you practice the same types of actions are recommended. Avoid starting important new projects while the Moon is VOC. If you want no result for an action, then act while Moon is VOC.
