How to use Moon conjunct Mercury

This is part of my series of articles about the Moon conjunct (joining up) each planet. This article is about Moon conjunct Mercury in the birth chart specifically, but the transiting Moon conjunct Mercury will also be described at the end. As the Moon travels around all 12 zodiac signs each month it can help you understand the ebb and flow of your personal energy cycle. You may feel more energized, for example, if the Moon is conjunct a stellium (3 or more in same sign) of planets in your chart and less energized when the Moon is in a sign you don’t have any planets in. Notice where your Mercury is, what sign and what house it is in. Now ponder the associations of Mercury. It describes our thinking or thought patterns, the types of things we mull over in our mind, how we communicate our thoughts to other people, and our types of preferred conversation topics and even the tone of your voice.

The Moon comes around to an individual person’s Mercury every month. I suggest tracking it in your calendar. Notice how you feel and what you think about on those 2 1/2 days. The Moon sensitives whatever it touches. The Moon with Mercury will sensitive your thoughts, bringing feelings up to the surface more than usual, could be thoughts of hurt feelings or thoughts of excited feelings, depends on the sign Mercury is in. Mercury in Aries might express more unfiltered thoughts, Mercury in Aquarius might be more verbally forceful with opinions. The house Mercury is in will tell you the topics that will come up such as 4th house Mercury will bring up situations with close family and/or home life. 11th house Mercury will bring up situations with friends or allies in a group setting.

You will want to understand how your Mercury relates to the other planets in your chart. For example, having Mercury square Mars will create consistent conflicts while Mercury trine Venus suggests the person will have consistent access to an easy creative or artistic flow. Whatever your Mercury does in your chart those topics and activities can manifest when the Moon comes around to it each month. The sign your Mercury is in, the house Mercury is in will describe the topics that come up in your thoughts and in your environment, the planetary aspects it has will describe the quality of those topics and activities. They may feel difficult to cope with, easy to cope with or just plain neutral.

All of this information can be especially helpful if a person has a tendency to dwell on negative thoughts. If an individual finds a difficult aspect with their birth Mercury than they can be more prepared for the times that the Moon (or any planet) comes around to conjunct it creating a trigger effect. Remembering that the Moon moves quickly (every 2 1/2 days) means its affect on a person’s thoughts and therefore feelings are brief, the mood will shift soon. The days of the Moon conjunct Mercury a person can have a friend or support group on standby to help with the possible downward shift of thoughts and feelings.

In your tracking you can add the Moon conjunct Mercury in the current sky alignment. The Moon will conjunct the transiting Mercury every month, but in a different sign each time. In your calendar you can highlight the day this happens, make a special note if it happens near any of your personal planets because you will likely feel it more. The sign of Mercury means that what you think and feel that day will vary each month, it will be a different sign each month.

Generally good activities for Moon conjunct Mercury are reading, writing, studying, and catching up on news of your neighborhood, city, state, or country. I would stay away from gossip during this time, especially if Mercury is retrograde. Next Mercury retrograde is Aug 4 - 28, 2024.
