It's important to remember the basic astronomy of a Lunar Eclipse, the light of the moon is being blocked by the shadow of Earth as the three bodies of Sun, Earth and Moon line up. When we have the moon and sun opposite each other we get a full moon, this happens every month. When the Earth lines up as well we get a Lunar Eclipse. This happens about every 6 months.
The moon during this eclipse is not getting help from the other planets (no major aspects to the moon) we must look at its ruler to understand the alignments better. The moon is near the South Node so there will be a feeling of letting go associated with the concepts I’ve written down below.
Since this lunar eclipse is in Libra it is ruled by Venus in Pisces which happens to be in the same sign as Saturn, Mars, & Neptune. Venus is happy to visit Pisces, but not so thrilled about the nearby boundaries of Saturn and the frustrated impatience of Mars. Our search for a deeper soul connection will likely come with strife. Venus has just left Saturn and is headed to Neptune - seeking an ideal picture from a higher power. The trick with this configuration is not to let yourself get distracted by a fantasy escape. If you’re headed toward “fantasy land” decide now that it is just a light hearted pit stop on the way to solutions that raise your energy.
Remember the astrological basics of eclipses: they bring change in the form of endings or new beginnings. Since this Lunar Eclipse has a Pisces stellium people with prominent Pisces planets will feel the energy stronger than most. For this eclipse Pisces sign people need to continually question themselves if they are acting on behalf of their higher self.
Prominent planets in Libra will feel this “emptying out” energy since this is the sign of the eclipse. Libra helps us relate to other people, it wants connection and peace. Look to your relationships corresponding to the house Libra rules. Example: Libra rules 3rd house- look at how you relate to your siblings, cousins or neighbors. Whatever house Libra resides in your chart you will feel that something must be eliminated so something new can come in and help you grow particularly to relationships.
Aries is the opposite sign of Libra. Prominent Aries planets will feel the tug and pull or “tug of war” between letting go of a relationship or letting go of some selfish behavior. Who is being selfish, the one wanting to relate or the one that wants to take off on their own?
The other cardinal signs are next in line to notice the energy of this eclipse. Prominent Cancer and Capricorn planets form tension filled squares toward Aries and Libra. These two signs (Cancer & Capricorn) will feel the need to take action, their path may have a fork in the metaphorical road and decision making is required to make progress.
The mutable signs of Sagittarius, Virgo and Gemini will be feeling the tension from Mars and Saturn in Pisces, this will last all month as these two planets get closer together. These signs will feel the need to defend or stand up for their ideals. Since Venus is also in Pisces it can help to soothe the way a bit, but it could be a rough road.
If you have mostly fixed signs like Leo, Aquarius, Taurus, & Scorpio you’re more likely to experience the optimism of Jupiter and Uranus coming together. These two planets conjunct is a rare occurrence, the unexpected is magnified and innovative inventions & ideas make the news constantly. The Lunar eclipse may just seem to make everyone around you going a little “nuts”.
I hope you have learned that depending on how the energy of your chart is weighted will determine how strongly you will feel these dynamic energies of light being turned off and on in the heavens. If you are a Sagittarius Sun, for example, but have prominent Libra planets you will feel the eclipse energy as described for Libra.
Whether you are in a geographical area that the eclipse is visible or not everyone will notice the effects of the light of the moon being shut off and then turned back on. Earth relies heavily upon the light from both of these celestial bodies.
